Conference Report
October 2007 Rotorua –1st National Conference
Breast Cancer Network’s 1st National Conference for those who have experienced
Breast Cancer was an amazing experience - informative and inspiring, fabulous
and fun! It will long be remembered by the 450 delegates for the exciting and
enjoyable experience of sharing and learning together.
The conference theme,
Moving Forward Together – Ahu Whakamua Tatou, reflected the atmosphere and sense of purpose through the three days of plenary sessions and workshops. For those who attended, a vital component of the conference was the opportunity to collectively “make a difference” by participating in workshop discussions and recommendations. 63 recommendations came from the conference workshops and these now form the basis of projects that BCN and others are working on.

In addition to the recommendations, several workshop groups decided upon specific items for action immediately after the conference:
• An email contact group of women with secondary cancer was established for those who attended the workshop Living With Hope in Your Heart.
• The women who attended the Cultural Aspects of Care for
Pacific Island Women workshop held an inaugural fono (meeting) in December 2007 in Papatoetoe, Auckland with a view to forming a group.
